Haunted Humberstone

I’ve lived in Humberstone for almost 32 years and I’ve heard stories of spooky goings on, houses been haunted, a ghost appearing in the back of your car on a certain road when travelling along it.

Grantham Road

We've lived in Humberstone for nine years.  We lived on Grantham Road; the side near St Mary's Ave. All we knew about the house was, that we bought it from an elderly couple. The husband had died about a year before, the wife had moved into a residential home. 

There was a shed in the back yard, which, when we took it down, we found lots of old metal heel protectors, that were once used on mens shoes and made a clicking sound when you walked.  The house had a entry to the left side.  It was here that all the things happened. Our bathroom was downstairs on the wall the of the entry. Every time I took a bath I could hear someone walk along the entry "click clacking".  No one else could hear this. We would sit watching TV and it would happen. Still no one could hear this only me. I asked the people next door if they knew anything, but no one did, then I spoke to the elderly gentleman next door, but one.  I was shocked to hear that the man who lived in my house would spend hours walking up and down the entry watching life go by, and he always wore heel protectors on his shoes.  After we had spoken about this, he stopped his walks, for which I was a bit sad, as I had become used to it.  Maybe "Frank" just wanted some recognition?

 Old Humberstone

In main street, Humberstone, a married couple had lived in a house for some 56 years.  A spirit of a girl called Rebecca, only 17 years of age, said to have killed herself because she got pregnant by the lord of the manor is sometimes seen. She has been seen going between the bathroom and the front room and inbetween the three adjoining houses.  The couple claim to have had ladies make-up taken, but it would always put back later. A hammer was often taken and would always be found on top of the wardrobe. 

The brother in law of the old gentleman, was living there for a while. He went for a bath and locked the bathroom door, ran his bath which was hot before he got in. Within seconds, it went ice cold and the door flung wide open. He went running outside, stark naked! He never went back to the house again, true or false? Who know’s?

Rebecca is said to be a happy spirit, but doesn’t respond well to change. The couple are fitting a new kitchen at the moment and has been seen quite a lot over the past few weeks.

Hungarton Boulevard

When my first son was born he didn't sleep much. It got much worse as he was put into his own bedroom. He was having what I was told were, night terrors, from around 2 years old. He had really bad dreams where he used to run around the house screaming, "get them away. Tell him to go. I don’t like it," he used to shout. Even to the point of no one being able to calm him down. As a happy little boy during the day he would never go and play in his bedroom and had to be carried to bed at night once asleep.  When I told one of my old neighbours about this, she said she was a medium and, although I was a bit sceptical, she said she would pop around and take a look at his bedroom. I was desperate for a good nights sleep so I agreed. As promised,she came and stood in his bedroom,closed her eyes and she started to talk to someone?!  

Well, although I wasn’t convinced, she told me that a man called Sydney had set himself up a chair in the corner of my son’s room, because he liked children and it was quiet and he could read his book without his wife nagging!! She told him it was upsetting my son and he agreed to find somewhere else. She also said there were a lot of spirit children following my son and wanting to play with him at night, hence him telling them to go away and get off his bed,. She guided in a spirit nanny to supervise the children and told her to keep them calm at night. She said that would be the last of it and my son would sleep that night. As I was still not at all convinced, I said a polite thank you as she left. Well, night time came and did my son sleep? Yes for the first time in nearly 4 years he slept all night!!! Now I am a great believer...

If anyone knows who this Sydney may have been, please let me know, I will relay the information back.

 

Old Humberstone

From my own experience.

When I was younger, the whole family was going upstairs to bed.  I had a funny feeling as I was going up stairs. I went into he bedroom, locked the door, still having this feeling. I looked under the bed, looked in the wardrobe, even looked in a walk in cupboard, but nothing there.  I then got into bed, pulled the quilt over me and turned the light off.  All of a sudden, something sat on the bed. As I was younger back then I daren't look, however, I do remember from when I was at school, that a family who once lived there. One family member saw something as the bottom of their bed, this was the same room I had!!! 

Another time, several years later, I was looking after the house with my fiancé, while my folks where away. We were watching the TV. It was one of those celebrity haunted shows, where they were performing a live séance on TV, when all of a sudden, the dog woke up, started to bark non stop at the mirror on the wall.

I got a EMF meter out to check the area that he was barking at, had a high meter reading, once the séance on the TV had finished the meter reading had gone. 

There wasn’t any power cables behind the mirror and only time I’ve seen that high is if the meter was near a microwave oven. 

We have still not found out what it was, well not yet.
